What you need to know before visiting Oman? - Travel Guide to Oman -

Having just returned from a wonderful trip to Oman I want to share with you a complete Travel Guide to this amazing country. Divided into sections, starting with this one.

When to visit?

The best times to visit Oman is from October through April, which are the more low-temperature months. It won't be cold but it will be pleasant to be outside enjoying the breeze. If you are like me and decide to visit Oman during the hot months, June to August prepare yourself to deal with a lot of humidity and heat, even at night. On the good side, you'll have Oman all by yourself, not everyone dares to deal with the heat so you'll have the space to get amazing photos!

What to know about Oman?

The capital is Muscat, and there,s plenty to see and do in Muscat; enough to spend a week just there. From food to shopping, beach and even opera.

The currency is the Omani Riyal (OMR) which 1OMR = $2.50. So be prepared for a bit of an expensive trip. You can save by pre-booking tours and eating as local as possible. We will talk about food in another post.

Population, Oman is around 50% omanis and 50% indians.

Language, in Oman the main language is Arabic and variations of it, but you can move around with English just fine.

Documents you need:

Passport - your passport needs to be valid for at least 6months if not your visa won't get approved.

Visa - the visa you can get it online super easy, for 20OMR = $52. Apply for a tourist visa, unsponsored, single entry; this will allow you to enter to Oman once, within the next 30 days (starting from the day your visa gets approved), without the need of a local sponsor. You can pay online and once is approved you'll receive it as an attachment in an email. Print it and take it with you. If not you can get a visa once you get to Muscat International Airport. Here is the link: https://evisa.rop.gov.om/

Returning ticket - it is recommended to have a returning ticket before you try to enter Oman. They might ask you for it in migration.

Accommodation reservation - this is another good to have before you enter Oman and you might also get asked for the reservation in the migration process.

What to do in Oman?

Keep in mind that planning is necessary but be flexible to change them along the way. From strolling through the beach, hiking for hours in an amazing nature, seeing the opera, and visiting amazing mosques to bumping into goats and camels just along the way. We will talk more about what to do and how to do it in a future blog.

Safe travels!

Until next time, Jailene
